Let’s take a look at ISM’s 2022 report, ‘Dignity at work 2: Discrimination in the music sector’ music sector, but also highlights the multitude of barriers freelancers face who have very little or no access to support when discrimination occurs.  

As the report states, “The music workforce is largely unregulated, with freelancers being subjected to all forms of discrimination which, by the very nature of the unstable work they do, leads to them making the decision not to report their experiences for fear of losing work.”

And as always, the intersections of identity beyond gender can cause further discrimination and harm, as the report delves into sexual orientation, racial discrimination, disability and more.
