Friday Figures - 11 Dec
An EIGE report found that across the EU, the bulk of unpaid care work is done by women with 92 % providing unpaid care several days a week. Why is this important to note? Irrespective of industry, the knock-on effect of this directly affects women in the workplace and pay. The report found that the unequal sharing of care, therefore, limits women’s job prospects and is major factor in the gender pay gap. It also highlights an increase in pay for women where childcare is available – bringing into question its affordability and socioeconomic factors to access this.
