Given all the work and activism around gender parity in the music industry, we need only to take a look at recently as last year to see the trajectory for the inclusion (or lack thereof!) of women in the studio. Not only are the overall stats insultingly dire, not a single woman of colour was credited as producer on a new release for 2021! The latest ‘Inclusion in the Recording Studio?’ found that of all new releases in 2021 on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End Chart, there were no women of colour credited as producers. Let that sink in.
