The insidious nature of unconscious bias lies at the very core of discriminatory practices that create barriers. We have talked about unconscious bias before (in our ‘Word Up’ series) and how it permeates through every aspect of one’s identity from outside perception, the stereotypes that are repeatedly reinforced (e.g. of gender, race, class, age, disability etc). Unconscious bias is something we are all guilty of, but more so, those in power and decision making positions - which is also connected to ‘tokenism’ which we spoke about yesterday for ‘Word Up’. The survey findings of the TuneCore / MIDiA Research ‘Be the Change: Women Making Music 2021’ reflect this. Read the full report here.
