Perception and expectation is key for the purpose of what we do, and why Keychange and other organisations and initiatives exist – to work collectively for gender parity and representation throughout the industry. The 2022 Keychange Study released this year looked at the German music industry where lead partner, Reeperbahn Festival, carried out a national survey. It found that 40% of festival goers surveyed believed that there was gender balance on the festival stages. An interesting statistic to reflect on. As you read further, the report notes the MaLisa Foundation findings – 16% overall of women on festival stages, with larger festivals showing a lower proportion of female artists: to be less than 10% on average!
