The BBC’s 50:50 project has not only been a success, it has also evolved to extend its scope to other intersectional elements, for example, disability and gender. We are naturally fans of proactive change. Our own Keychange pledge signatories make a concerted effort to reach and maintain gender balance within their festival, industry company, or music organisation, engaging with us and sharing collaboratively within the pledge community. 

We would also like to reiterate that quota driven change is not tokenism or representation for the sake of it. Talent exists – opportunity does not! To say that half of the world’s population is incapable because of their gender is, to put quite simply, insulting.
