The power of expansive accessibility and reach of radio across the world cannot be denied. Women unsurprisingly continue to be underrepresented also in this area. It is not only important to consider the proportional representation, but in what context are women being presented also, for example, in stereotypical gendered roles as observed in the EBU report Gender Equality and Public Service Media, “they are more often socially anonymous and more often depicted in a parental situation than men.” Therefore, it is not just representation, but diversity in the context in which women and gender minority broadcasters are seen and heard in.
