In combating the myth of meritocracy, major shifts need to be made in order to reach equity which starts from removing barriers and providing opportunity from a government level. This is what the Australia Council for the Arts proactively acknowledges in the inequalities within the structures. The ‘Gender & creativity: progress on the precipice’ (UNESCO) report found that 73% of their music grants in 2018 were allocated to women, whilst there was continued implementation of action plans to shift the inequity of gender within the arts.
