Today we look at structural issues, as we reflect on the Counting the Music Industry report again. Whilst festival line ups reflect the vast gender disparity, we must bring to question the whole music industry ecosystem leading up to that point, as with many other end points (e.g. award shows, radio airplay, who gets pushed as an Artist). As Vick Bain rightly points out – the chain of events is set off earlier, influenced by labels and publishers (as we see in today’s Friday Figure!), and artist with record labels and managers. This has the inevitable knock-on effect at what happens throughout the industry and the end point.
