Poppy Ajudha

Poppy Ajudha is the voice at the forefront of the burgeoning South London music scene. Growing up in Depftord, she was exposed to soul, jazz, funk and reggae from an early age at her St Lucian father’s nightclub. It is her modern twist on these influences combined with her unique lyrics which passionately address gender, feminism and gentrification as well as love and the purpose surrounding her growing up that have garnered her fantastic early support for her first release Love Falls Down including Gilles Peterson, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart, BBC Introducing, Jamz Supernova and more. Having sung for as long as she can remember, Poppy’s self taught vocal style has seen her likened to greats including Erkyah Badu, Corinne Bailey-Rae and Amy Winehouse. Her musicians and collaborators are an incredible selection of South London’s finest musicians, each bringing their homegrown musical inflections to create a sound that is already becoming immediately recognisable as Poppy’s own. It may be early days for Poppy but rest assured, with her exciting release schedule and headline shows to come very soon, she will be the name on everyone’s lips and the soundtrack to a young, socially engaged generation in the very near future.
