Tawiah

Since releasing her debut EP 'In Jodi's Bedroom' in 2009 Tawiah has built a reputation as a prodigious live performer and a distinctly original, contemporary voice as a songwriter and recording artist. Her explorations in alt-soul have lead to her being championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Zane Lowe and The Guardian (to name a few) as well as high profile collaborations with the likes of Cee-Lo Green, Kindness, Cinematic Orchestra, Paul Oakenfold and Mark Ronson. In June 2017 Tawiah released her ‘Recreate' EP which sees her venture into unexplored territories, seamlessly blending avant-garde musical leanings and beautifully melodic sensibilities. Disjointed, low slung beats run throughout, cloaked in a mist of dark, layered harmonies and perfectly complimented by strings composed by Flying Lotus and Lana Del Rey collaborator Miguel Atwood Ferguson. Her voice is uncompromising, alternating between thoughtful restraint and impassioned abandon. In 2019 she released her debut album ‘Starts Again’ on First Word Records. The vestiges of Tawiah’s early vocal training in church contrast against the distinctive South London accent that has helped to place her firmly at the vanguard of a diverse yet notably British alternative soul movement in recent years.
