Friday Figures - 12 Jan

We hope that you’ve had a restful break and a positive start to the year! And talking of positive, we start the year by looking at the UK charts rundown for 2023 from the BPI (representing the UK’s recorded music industry) which saw “women secured a record-breaking 31 out of 52 weeks leading the Official Singles Chart in 2023”.

This clearly illustrates that tedious argument of ‘oh, but women don’t sell…’ as an excuse for gender disparity in signups, lineups and headline slots (and in particular for mainstream festivals in) is invalid. Of course, we also need to dig further o what numbers exist in terms of emerging talent and new music and the industry behind the scenes, but today we can take a moment in celebrating this success.

Read the full breakdown here on albums and singles, streaming and sales, as well as positive news on the purchasing of physical formats!
