MANIFESTO 2.0: 10-point call-to-action
Aimed at legislators, policy makers, and all sectors of the music industry, the latest iteration of the manifesto is informed by over 300 women and gender-diverse participants on the Keychange programme who share their wishes, concerns, experiences and recommendations. The Manifesto 2.0 identifies 10 points while further outlining a call-to-action on each point.
1. We Need Safer Spaces
Safety measures and providing
resources on how to create and maintain safer spaces
2. Tackle the Gender Pay Gap
Unite and work
together across the board to fight the gender pay gap
3. Intersectional Representation
Visibility beyond
gender, from different racial, ethnic, cultural, socio-economic and ability
backgrounds
5. Visibility and Awareness
Embraces the
conversation around gender diversity, acknowledges its various manifestations
7. Implement Politics of Care
For the mental and physical wellbeing of
artists, children and people with disability, and the environment
9. Work Alongside Cis-Men
Cis-men need
to engage in the conversations and processes that women and gender-diverse
artists are having.
4. Education in Music Industries
Education at all levels, whether at schools,
universities, or through professional training and courses provided
6. Community and Networking
Creating, fostering and nurturing of spaces of connection for thoughtful exchanges
8. Research and Knowledge
To understand better what we have, the
challenges we are facing and determine potential solutions
10. Language and Communication
We need to utilise language in a gender-affirming and intersectional manner.
Keychange Manifesto 1.0
In 2018 Keychange presented its first Manifesto for change at the European Parliament in Brussels.
The Manifesto 1.0 celebrates the achievements, ideas and suggestions that came out of the first Keychange project and calls for collective action in four areas:
1. Acknowledgement
Addressing recruitment, remuneration, career development and sexual harassment policies.
2. Investment
Making more funds available for targeted programmes which empower underrepresented artists and industry professionals.
3. Research
Analysing and reporting on the current gender gap with an economic impact study of companies with increased gender balance.
4. Education
Creating a new, diversified norm by promoting role models and career opportunities.
