Prompted by the lack of data in the music industry, former CEO of the Ivors Academy, Vick Bain, conducted research in the report ‘Counting the Music Industry’ - a gender gap analysis of over 300 music publishers and record labels in the UK. With Covid putting a pause in all areas of life since, such pre-pandemic studies are crucial in tracking how the industry moves forward to rectify the gender disparity in all areas. The report also identifies where the barriers lie, as well as put forward recommendations to implement for government, education and music organisations for a gender inclusive future.
