Friday Figures - 23 Oct
A couple of weeks ago, we looked at Live DMA’s report on the impact of Covid across their European network. As the relentless consequences continue, we look at recent figures in the UK, which is no doubt also reflective of the industry as a whole across the globe. The UK Live Music: At a Cliff Edge report (Carey & Chambers, October 2020) found, “Overall, UK live music income will fall 81% in 2020, while revenue has been close to zero since March.” The frightening figures of recent weeks not only serve to remind us of the mountainous task of restarting the live industry – the reset button should prompt us to reassess and reconfigure how we look at the industry, its value and values, and of course, prioritise how we can use this opportunity to construct a gender balanced, fairer future in music.
