Acknowledging one of the least diverse genres of music, the Arts Council England appointed ICM Unlimited to conduct a workforce survey in the world of classical music. This highlights that research is much needed and a great starting point – but that’s just what it is.  A starting point. What you do going forward matters, the implementation of recommendations and tracking the changes.  ‘Presence and absence’ at different career stages are also crucial to identify the shortcomings of access and although race an inevitable factor, the socio-economic (in particular, class background) aspects must be considered as well as disability, sexuality and more. We advise you to read the whole report to fully understand the nuances of intersections and how they collide, which we simply cannot summarise in a slide.
