Celebrating progress! Did this pass you by? In their latest Gender and Racial Disparity Data Report on UK Radio, the Why Not Her? Collective notes that while support has been paramount via press and media in producing the gender disparity in radio reports – sadly, not a single media outlet in the UK reported this landmark moment of women surpassing men in the UK Top 100 songs on radio and the fact that many major radio stations reached gender parity on their rotations. The collective further observes that this speaks to the media’s reluctance to vocalise and celebrate success of women and the desire to focus on the negative. The celebration of shared millstones and goals reached must be celebrated, not only because it is great news, but also to show that the proactive measures and a collective mind set focused on equity WORKS.

Well done to all involved, and we hope to see the visibility of women and gender-diverse talent continue to grow and be sustained.
