With the Grammys taking place next week, we take a look at award ceremonies this week. From nominations to wins, whilst we applaud non-gendered categories (Brit Awards and 100% male nominees for Best Artist, anyone?) these trends still persist over, as we have seen 5 main categories of the Grammys the past decade. It will be interesting to see who the winners are in a seemingly diverse 2023 nominations list.

These are tiresome debates to counter, when we are to consider ‘the best’ when it comes to awards. We have to look to the jury selection, and even then, having a diverse jury is not enough. Inclusion demands that different perspectives and takes are considered, otherwise we are left with a tick box scenario in whatever we do, which creates more barriers for meaningful, representative change.
