Against a backdrop of growing frustration with the absurdity of conference stages being dominated with all-male panels, and music festival stages offering predictably “pale, male and stale” lineups, Spanish festival Primavera Sound has declared that gender equality is the “new normal”. While more than 100 festivals and conferences, led by U.K. advocacy group Keychange, accounted a commitment to establish a 50/50 gender split by 2022, Primavera felt the matter deserved more urgency, as they explained on their website.
