Barriers to entry, and indeed to stay in the music industry are exacerbated, as we well know, by the persisting pay gap. Further to gender, we know that race (alongside other intersections) make for multiple barriers when considering salaries. Highlighted by UK Music’s Diversity Report, it found that this was an issue in all pay brackets (with a particular high representation of women and those from a minority background in the lower income bracket!). This is why we urge for transparency in pay and question act on these disparities that remain deeply rooted in the infrastructure. We also wonder what this looks like in other geographical territories.
