We are still on a high coming out of Way Out West last week. While our heads are still there, let’s take a look at some Swedish statistics today. Interestingly, the aptly titled ‘Perspectives Survey’ (commissioned by Musiksverige) released earlier this year, takes into account intersectional perspectives with the respondents surveyed. Crucially, one of the questions is centred around how inclusive the respondents consider the Swedish music industry to be (NB “An inclusive industry is an industry where you feel respected, seen and treated equally, regardless of background or other factors”). This is something that we come back to time and time again. Without meaningful inclusivity, any work and efforts into diversifying the industry becomes meaningless.
