Today we reflect on the cumulative effects of the gender pay gap. A significant number of women and gender minority workers in the music industry are overworked and underpaid - its negative impact not only on the work itself, but also mental health, exhaustion, sense of self worth, career progression… the list is endless! The Women in the Mix Study (from The Recording Academy®, Arizona State University and Berklee College of Music Institute for Creative Entrepreneurship) saw more than 1,600 respondents participating from across the US, representing all ages, races and ethnicities – alongside a notable shift in being more inclusive by putting focus also on women of colour and encompassing gender minorities, whilst also taking into account the consequences of the pandemic.
