Sometimes, we get stuck in our bubbles with likeminded individuals and organisations - and then we wonder why it takes so long for things to change when we look at the wider picture. Today’s sobering statistic, we take a further look at the latest USC Annenberg “Inclusion in the Recording Studio?” report, analysing behind the scenes of popular music in the Billboard charts. There was no significance increase in the number of women producers over the decade that was analysed for popular music. Whether it’s lack of access and opportunity, or crediting, these are both deliberate systematic barriers rooted in the infrastructure, coupled with erasure.
