Friday Figures - 31 Mar
We were honoured to take part in Keychange Innovator Saskhia Menendez’ workshop, ‘Trans Education & Inclusion in the Music Industry’ on Trans Visibility Day today. Saskhia shared info, case studies and statistics – like any other intersection, there isn’t just one homogenous experience of being trans. Thank you Saskhia for giving a platform to other trans voices and experiences – this was invaluable!
One area in particular that came up repeatedly is protection against transphobia, bullying and harassment, whether in the workplace, live venues and in everyday life. Employers have a duty of care to their employees and it’s highly concerning that trans people have to hide their identity in the workplace (and beyond) and this is on the increase. Not only does this feed into safety, reporting becomes problematic when there is no safe space to do so and the workplace is ill-equipped to deal with transphobia, discrimination, verbal and physical abuse and more, compounding the issues!
We hope to share some resources in the not too distant future, but in the meantime, read more about the YouGov/TotalJobs survey findings here.
