The Icelandic Opera
The Icelandic Opera was formally founded October 3rd 1980 by a group of young singers and artists. For nearly thirty years, the company resided in an old theatre downtown Reykjavík and moved to Harpa Concert Hall 2011 where the company is one of the main residents.
Each season, The Icelandic Opera produces a versatile programme featuring Icelandic talents and regularly invites international guest artists. In its forty year history The Icelandic Opera has staged high quality productions ranging from Mozart and Verdi to new works by Icelandic composers.
The company regularly hosts concerts with some of Iceland's best known singers as well as emerging new talents. The Icelandic Opera regularly participates in co-productions with local and international Festivals and Opera companies. Many of Iceland's finest singers have made their debut with The Icelandic Opera later to become well known in the international world of opera.
